Devious Devices: Technology We Can't Live Without

Over the past decade, mobile devices have gone from cool gadgets, to irreplaceable parts of everyday living. It has even come to a point where those who lack a smartphone are excluded from social groups and even certain lines of work, though not necessarily out of malice towards Luddites, but simply due to the fact that these are the platforms on which we communicate. Additionally, with the proliferation of screens you can carry in your pocket, a number of other fringe-accessories are now must-haves. Take a look at how new technology has come to change and grow into our daily lifes.

The Smartphone
These days, the question isn't whether to get a smartphone, it’s which smartphone are you going to get. After purchasing your first smartphone, it’s hard to imagine how you functioned before you had a map, the internet, your music, and a calendar in your pocket. The constant connection goes beyond the personal applications, though. Many jobs that aren't just made easier by having a smartphone, but are actually impossible to do without one. These aren't just high-paying business or marketing type jobs, but things as simple as taxi services and managing odd-jobs. Entrepreneurs are using smartphones as point-of-sale systems, opting for Paypal over other credit card service fees.

Tablets
When Apple rolled out the iPad, many scoffed at a seemingly needless piece of technology. How would you compute without a keyboard? Now, there are schools that distribute tablets to their students and mobile app developer is a career path. The touchscreen is the preferred method of input, and children are learning how to use them at very early ages. A tablet has all the speed and most of the portability of a smartphone, merely trading the phone for a slightly larger screen. And, with all those other methods of connectivity, it’s not a bad exchange.

Cases
Every market creates a sub-market. Touchscreens smudge, and devices are fragile and expensive. Some sort of case and protective screen is practically a required purchase for any device, and this is where the marketing towards personalization really shines. You only have to go to cellphonecases to see how many different styles and types of protection there is. Cases advertised to every different kind of personality and lifestyle.

These devices are having drastic effects on how we interact with each other on personal and economic levels. Some of these changes are positive, as connectivity lends itself well to efficiency. However, it’s pretty easy to get glued to a screen and forget the world around you. Where will our devices take us next?

The gadget will be able to change our lifestyle only if the user needs on his or her body all day, even if the device is having no function. Also the gadget should be very comfortable as well as of very sensuous because it will be a thing that literally will be on the consumer’s skin all day. It should be something that should be able to express what the person really is.

For the tech savvy people the wearable gadgets are going to be a very helpful device as it will be able to perform most of their work without much interference from the person who is wearing it. The wearable gadget industry is haunted by the false start in the earlier time which was with Bluetooth headsets, which were very common few years back but eventually fell out of the favor. How to Enter and Thrive in the Mobile App Development Business

The market for mobile apps development is growing at a phenomenal pace and consequently the business of apps development can mean some serious bucks for developers. According to a study by research2guidance, the total amount spent by players in mobile / OS developers business on apps development was a whooping $20b in 2012.

With apps developers being able to charge high rates, a growing army of software developers is extremely interested in garnering a share of this tasty pie. If you too are lured but don’t have a clue on how to embark in this rewarding field, here are some much needed tips for you.

Take a Course in Apps Development
A degree or certificate in mobile apps development will lend credibility to you as a developer. Although there are no industry recognized courses, a basic degree in computer engineering, augmented by a few specific certifications in mobile apps development is all what you need to be accepted as an apps developer on the market.

Choosing the Right Professional Partner
As a certified apps developer, you can look forward to hone your skills professionally. There are broadly two options at your disposal –
1. Join a company into the business of apps development, or
2. Engage yourself as an individual apps developer with the likes of Apple or Google.

As a beginner, a better approach would be to engage yourself with less popular operating systems like Windows Phone 7 or Hewlett-Packard’s WebOS, as this will allow you earn the right attention required to be noticed. Engaging with an Apple or Google would imply competing with an army of apps developers who are already well established. So initially your strategy should be about being a big fish in a small pound.

If you choose to associate yourself as an individual developer within the space, the sky is the limit, subject to the condition you are able to prove yourself. As a developer you will need to first focus on the development and once it is done, you can place your apps for distribution on the apps store. This is not all done, and I would say developing an app is the just the first step in the right direction.

Marketing is Very Important
There are thousands of apps already listed on the apps store and hence it becomes crucial to let people know and understand the benefits of your apps. While you write the description of your apps, use the right keywords and ensure the message is conveyed in crisp and effective manner. If you are not able to effectively communicate the value of what you have, it is a disaster. Remember, your description should make your app stand ahead of the competition.

Deploying Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Marketing Optimization (SMO) can be pretty helpful for you to grab the initial attention.

If you have a really good app that is going to appeal the masses, you just have to ensure that a decent number of customers download your app. If customers love the app you create, then there is no more effective marketing tool than word of mouth publicity. You will be surprised to see the demand of your apps going viral. But as it is not easy to predict what consumers would like, to improve your odds for success it is advisable to develop a portfolio of apps.

Paying for Downloads
Although not everybody would agree with idea of paying for downloads, but it certainly makes commercial sense. There are firms who charge a fixed fee from developers and guarantee a certain number of minimum downloads.

Downloads are driven by providing incentives to customers. The incentives are not real but virtual, like if a user is in the middle of a game, a pop up would appear which would give the user an option to download the app and in barter get a few extra lives or weapons. As more people download the app, it will gain popularity and as we discussed earlier if the app is appreciated by users, success will follow. A practical drawback with this methodology is that many users tend to ignore or delete the apps after downloading and hence the app may not even be noticed.

Bottom line
While marketing plays an important role in the success of an app, ultimately it is the quality of the app that drives its success. So, work on developing a quality app first and then devise a strategic marketing plan, fame and money will follow you.

Bang For Your Buck: What Are You Getting Out of Your Phone Plan

With the purchase of a cell phone from almost any major retailer, a contract ranging from six months to three years or longer is often necessary. With even just a single smartphone, customers could be looking at potentially lengthy contractions and expensive stipulations, and that is why everyone should take a few extra seconds to understand a few basic steps to take in order to get the most out of one’s phone and phone plan.

Contract Details
One of the most important choices will come down to the contract details. Families and loved one’s will often purchase their phones and sign a contract in a bundle to save on money and cut down on the total minutes and texts that they will be using. Depending on the carrier, group contracts could cut costs by a relatively large percentage, but the length of the contract itself is another important consideration to make as they can range from just a few months to multiple years.

Phone Options
The next thing to consider is the phone itself. Many loyal Apple customers will opt for iPhone plans so that they can keep up with this mobile technology and its unique app market. Customers may also choose the Blackberry OS from Bell.ca in order to take full advantage of Research in Motion, also known as RiM. The primary alternative to Apple and Blackberry cell phones are phones base on the Android operating system. This company has a number of unique features including an app market that is owned and operated by Google.

Data Plans
Some cell phones do come without the need for a data plan, but almost all smartphones like iphone plans that are listed as a 3G or 4G phone require a 3G or 4G data plan. Data plans refer to the amount of information that is uploaded and downloaded from the phone when it is not utilizing a local wireless network. With modern carriers, the data plan is often the most expensive component of one’s overall phone bill.

Warranties and Coverage
A final consideration, and one that many customers overlook, is the warranty and coverage extended to the phone. Warranties will vary by the manufacturer of the phone as well as the retailer and they could potentially save the owner of the phone hundreds of dollars in the coming years. This coverage can often be extended to further cover all accidents and theft, preventing the need to purchase an additional phone before the contract is expired.

5 Ways Your Smart Phone Can Help You Be A Better Driver

Smart phones have become miniature computers that have a wide range of applications. Using the device as a phone can be distracting to drivers who are on the road. This is not the only use for a smart phone in the car. There are five ways that a smart phone can actually make a person a better driver.

1. Traffic Reports
Smart phones can make a person a better driver through apps that provide real-time traffic reports in the current city. These apps use data from a number of sources to report on major highways or avenues that are blocked or moving very slowly. This allows drivers to avoid contributing to gridlock and to get to the destination faster.

2. Voice Commands
Most smart phones can accept voice commands to perform different functions. This allows drivers to deal with issues such as incoming calls, text messages or even alarms that act as reminders without turning away from the road. This also helps when using a smart phone to play music since the driver can use voice commands to lower the volume or change the track.

3. Driving Assistance
A handful of smart phone apps are now available that provide driving assistance. These apps use the sensors and the global positioning chip in the phone to extrapolate the speed and movements of the vehicle. Drivers will hear a warning from these apps when exceeding the local speed limit, when making overly hard turns or when driving in a way that is considered dangerous. Driving assistance apps can even record the data so that it can be looked at later.

4. Navigation
Smart phones are becoming a less expensive alternative to dashboard mounted global positioning systems (GPS) in cars. Some apps are even more accurate than older standalone devices. Navigation apps provide drivers with step-by-step directions to a destination. Many apps vocalize the directions. This allows drivers to focus on the road and the surrounding vehicles instead of looking at a map.

5. Diagnostics
A number of smart phone apps provide diagnostics for a vehicle. Some of these apps track time or mileage and inform the driver when the car needs maintenance. This means a person with Nitto tires can use the app to know when it is time to have the tires rotated. Other apps communicate with a device plugged into the car. These apps inform drivers about potential internal problems. These make drivers better by ensuring the car is safe to operate.

It is important to use smart phones responsibly while driving. Some helpful apps are designed to be used before starting the car and getting on the road. Others provide audio feedback. It is important never to look away from the road while driving.

Will Free Roaming hurt Dual sim phones

Recently all the blogs have been talking about the rise of Dual SIM technology in India and how some phone manufacturers have capitalized on this increasing demand of Indian phone users by making most of their phones supporting dual-SIM functionality.  Dual-SIM phones allow users to pick service providers of their choice and make best use of their offers. One can have a SIM for voice and text usage while another for data usage or even use two separate SIMs from two cities you visit frequently, and not spend much on roaming charges. All this is set to change.

The opposition
After much pressure and huge delays, the Department of Telecommunications has finally announced that it intends to introduce free roaming for all mobile phone users by October this year. While this is a welcome move for all phone users who end up paying a fair share of their mobile bills as roaming charges, major service providers are opposing this introduction fearing loss of revenues. Introduction of free roaming is meeting strong opposition from telecom majors such as Airtel and Vodafone, who do not wish to lose such a large share of their income to the government’s decision. If enforced, these companies aim to recover revenue losses by increasing base tariff for all costumers, which would be unfair to bulk of the users who rarely using roaming facilities. Instead, both these players recommend the introduction of fixed price vouchers, just like SMS packs, ISD packs, that will allow users to enjoy free roaming for limited period of time. So, consumers who travel often can opt for these packs and enjoy free roaming while outside their home circles, without affecting the regular users in the circle. While this may seem like a win-win situation for telecom companies and users, it does fall flat on the government Telecom Policy.

The opportunist
Anil Ambani led Reliance - Reliance Communications though has quite a welcome approach to this government directive. Taking a leaf from similar policies implemented abroad, especially, the US, Reliance Communications believes that availability of free roaming will further boost telephone calls between roaming users and their home circles. This will increase average expenditure per user, which could make up for the losses companies might face if roaming charges are abolished.

The present situation
Whether, these policies will affect dual SIM technology, depends largely on the number of users who use SIM cards from different circles on their dual-SIM compatible phones.  Dual SIM phones are also gaining popularity since they allow users to get maximum benefit out of a company’s offer for text messages and/ or data packs. As long as users stick such usage, Dual SIM technology is here to stay. Also, there are many users who opt to keep their business and personal life separate at all times. A few years ago, these were the people you would see carrying two-three phones at a time. With dual-SIM phones, it is now a rare sight to find someone carrying multiple phones. Such users take advantage of dual-SIM functionality to keep their personal and business life separate. You could be on vacation and still be reachable for important clients or choose to respond only to emergency situations, all thanks to your Dual SIM phone.

Also, certain far-off areas such as agricultural fields, industrial areas do not have the privilege of multiple service providers. Hardly one or two service carriers connect these far off areas. People usually traveling to such areas regularly while residing elsewhere in the town or city tend to use dual-SIM phones to stay connected at all times. This is another set of users that will still continue to use Dual SIM Phones.

The real dilemma
As October approaches, the story of free roaming will slowly unfold. Whether the Government bows down to pressure from the service providers or stays committed to its announcement will only be known when October arrives. The introduction of Free Roaming will also bring about a much need unification of network circles. Whether it will kill Dual SIM technology or not, only time will tell, but unification of network circles and availability of mobile-number portability (MNP –meaning, the mobile number you are currently using might be the only one you will ever need) are a much welcome change. Again only time will tell whether or not these changes are here to stay.  It remains to see how Dual sim technology breaks into the Top 5 Trends in mobile industry.

Top 5 Gadgets and Internet Trends to Know So You Don't Get Left Behind

You hear about emerging technologies all the time, but each year our technologies and gadgets progress faster and faster. Instead of being left behind this time, you'll want to make sure to get ahead of the game and familiarize and prepare yourself for new gadgets before companies release these technologies to the public. Check out the following top five gadgets that will hit headlines in the near future.

1. Google Glass

You've seen it in futuristic movies, and it's almost here: a pair of glasses that does everything that your smart phone does, from giving directions and taking pictures to translating languages and answering questions all by the sound of your voice. Share your point-of-view with your family and friends through pictures and videos and download various apps. This is a truly incredible piece of technology that you'll want to keep your eye on, set to release just before the holiday season.

2. Electric Cars

If you're not living under a rock, then you've probably heard a lot about electric car technology, but since few companies are actually manufacturing fully electric cars, few people have been able to get their hands on them. However, you can expect affordable electric cars to hit the market in the near future with comparable mpg to traditional vehicles.

3. Smart TV

Since the release of the smart phone, it hasn't been such a crazy idea to create a smart TV, and you don't have to wait much longer. With TVs having the ability to wirelessly connect to the Internet, you will receive easy, high-quality experiences with television, social media, and video websites among many other applications all at a higher resolution.

4. Smart Watch

Along with smartphones and smart TVs, you'll also discover that the smart watch is creating a buzz throughout the nation. A smart watch is much more than a user-friendly way to keep the time, but it can also function as a mobile communication device, calculator, camera, and more. Many include features such as weather monitoring, GPS navigation, and countless other modern applications.

They can also support Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and with modern wireless Internet services offered by companies like Clear Internet Services, your watch can connect to the 4G network no matter where you are. Visit http://www.clearinternetservices.com/about-clear-wireless-internet.html for more information.

5. 3-D Printing

Maybe you won't actually be using 3-D printing, but this is a technology you'll want to know about. 3-D printing is a technique that interprets computer files and turns designs into 3-D models, and it won't take long until consumers can use the technology in their home, office, or other remote locations. This means that companies can quickly and easily create hard copy models from 2-D blueprints by printing layers of metal or plastic. Pretty cool, huh?

No matter if you're ready to move on from your recent gadgets to these latest technologies, it's important to become aware of these emerging gadgets, because they're going to make an impact.  Whether you like it or not, you'll likely encounter these gadgets, and when you do, you'll be ahead of the game.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Review

The world’s most popular Android phone is at it again. Samsung released specifications for the sequel to the hugely popular Galaxy S3 earlier last month at the Galaxy S4 release event in New York City. With rumors abound of eye-controlled browser navigation, the Galaxy S4 ended up living up to hype surrounding the long anticipated release.

The basics
On first glance, the Galaxy S4 retains the design aesthetic cherished by some and loathed by others. While it still comes in your basic black mist or white frost, the familiar polycarbonate covering is amplified with a slim metallic trim which elevates the device away from the less luxurious feel of the plain plastic back on the S3. Although the S4 can hang the heavy weights in screen size, when it comes to total weight the S4 comes in at a light 130 grams.

You think the retina display on the iPhone 5 is clear, check out the HD Super AMOLED  full five inch screen. Although that may seem like a minimal upgrade from the S3’s 4.8 inches, Samsung managed to add screen space while simultaneously making the device overall narrower, thinner, and lighter. Screen real estate is a premium and the Galaxy S4 clocks in at 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm. Finally, you won’t be able to discern any fuzziness on the S4 with its 441.5 pixels per inch display which rivals the new HTC One.
The Galaxy S4 may look a lot like its older brother the S3, but there are some distinct differences even at the surface level. The S4 will be the first mass market phone to take advantage of Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3. Corning outdoes itself this time with a screen that is three times more scratch resistant than its predecessor, while becoming thinner and sleeker. Check out thisYouTube video for a testament to the S4’s scratch resistance as it goes head to head with a variety of knives and pennies.

The nitty gritty
The guts of the S4 are fairly standard with 2 GB of RAM and a powerful battery of 2600 mAh. Carriers will offer 16, 32, and 64 GB versions of the phone. As with the S3, you can buy extra storage using the microSD card slot if you feel the 64G version alone just won’t do it for you. Naturally, the S4 is LTE equipped for lightning fast down download speeds.

The cool stuff
While Samsung really elevated the S4 on the software side, there are still some hardware upgrades that are noteworthy. The S4 comes with an IR blaster for those times when you are searching high and low for that blasted remote. You can simply use your S4 as a universal remote to access your TV and entertainment sets.
On the hardware site, Samsung gave the camera a big upgrade as well on this edition. The S4 has 13 MP sensor on the rear camera, up from 8 MP on the S3. The front camera has video chat capabilities and a 2 MP sensor. The camera capabilities are where Samsung leaped some bounds on the software side. “Dual Shot” eliminates the need of finding an external third person to be kind enough to take a shot of you and your buddies. Dual shot takes a picture on both the front and rear cameras and then superimposes your image into the final picture. For those pictures where everyone is looking every which way, Samsung offers “Best Face” which lets you take multiple shots of a group picture and compile everyone’s best face into a final compilation shot.

This article would be incomplete without mention of the S4’s most anticipated features: Smart Scroll and Smart Pause. Both take advantage of the fact that the S4 comes with the capability of knowing when you are looking at the phone directly. The Smart Scroll lets you tilt up or down to browse when directly looking at the screen while the Smart Pause will automatically pause a video when you happen to turn away.

Where and when you can get it
Within two weeks of product preview, Samsung had received 10 million pre-orders for the S4, outdoing the previous S3 record of 9 million. Being one of the ideal firmware elements, the ROM brings out multiple usable highlights. It has a combination of all the advantages of other ROMs that are available. It does not club some of the popular ROMs like Paranoid Android and AOKP. For a mobile of such a sleek design like Galaxy S2 it’s recommended to install this lovely ROM. It is also a fact that installing the Vanilla RootBox can eliminate the occurrence of errors. This is the common complaint in Android Jelly Bean as it lacks proper formation. You will also learn from Vanilla RootBox that it is not overridden with aspects from varied sources making it easier to install. You will definitely be in a user-friendly environment while working.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 Vs Apple iPad Mini

The tablet market is witnessing no dearth of competition these days. Two of the most watched out for rivals are corporate giants Apple and Samsung. The two manufactures are fighting hard to capture a larger market share that the other. Moreover, the two companies manufacture only quality products. This makes it all the more difficult to decide which one is the better of the two.

Talking of tablets, Apple has launched Apple iPad Mini while Samsung unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) this year. In terms of quality, specifications and features the two are good and they stand shoulder to shoulder in competition with each other. However, we decided to compare the two slates. When we put them along side each other, here’s what we found.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 Vs. Apple iPad Mini
To begin with Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 looks like it is the Note 2’s clone. Note 8.0 slate is Samsung Galaxy Note 2 with a screen size of 8-inches. Some share the opinion that in terms of its size, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 resembled the iPad Mini. The truth however is that the Note 8.0 looks like a smaller iPad Mini.

The body of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 makes it look and feel like a premium gadget. Plastic has been used to make this device. The curved corners and its glossy finish gives this gadget a neat look. However, this device weighs heavier than the iPad Mini. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 weighs about 338 grams or 11.9 ounce. This device comes with a screen resolution of 1280 * 800. Higher the pixel density means images will be noticeably sharper. We tested the screen of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 and we noticed that the screen provided an excellent view from almost any viewing angle. One thing that the screen lacks is Super AMOLED display. You can use the S Pen to write on the screen of this device. This device being as slim as just 8mm and this makes it comfortably slip into a bag.

In terms of performance Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 is top class. The speed of this device is impressive. Thanks to the 1.6GHz quad-core processor that powers this device. This device also comes with features like radios for WiFi a/b/g/n, GB RAM, A-GPS, Bluetooth 4.0 and an internal storage capacity of up to 32GB. However, storage capacity of this device can be expanded using a microSD expansion. This device runs on a powerful 4,600mAh battery.

All in all Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 is one of the perfect competitors for the iPad Mini.  Here’s a closer look at the specifications and features of the latter.

In terms of design, build and physical appearance iPad Mini wins the race hands-down. Thanks to the high-quality materials that are used in its making. This is a premium product by all means. iPad Mini is as light as just 10.8 ounce and is as thin as just 7.2mm. This goes to say that it is half the weight of the regular iPad. It is impossible to hold this tablet without letting your fingers touch the screen. Apple had foreseen this and to avoid accidents of any kind the company had developed the ‘resist thumb recognition’ technology. Screen resolution of iPad Mini is 1,024 x 768. Users only wished that the iPad Mini came with better sharpness.

iPad Mini is simply superb in terms of its performance. Thanks to the 1GHz A5 processor that this device runs on. This device has been updated to the 6.1 version of iOS. Apple’s virtual assistance Siri can be accessed on this device. iPad Mini comes with wireless networking support and Bluetooth option. There is a 3.5mm audio connector that is situated on the top of this device.

If you are passionate about photography, do not expect too much from the iPad Mini’s camera. This device comes packed with a 5MP iSight camera at the rear. This camera comes with advanced features like backside illumination that improves the quality of images that you take. However, this camera comes minus features like HDR mode and flash. iPad Mini also comes with a 1.2MP FaceTime camera.  You can own an iPad Mini with a storage capacity of 16, 32 or 64GB. Storage capacity of this device is non-expandable.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 and iPad Mini come packed with all the features that you to have on your tablet. Nevertheless, it is difficult to come to a conclusion about which is the best of the two.

What are your great thoughts about Nexus gadget and Android 4.2

Nexus smart-phones are easily distinguished for their special features. Literally, the continuous add-ons in the features can easily foretell the truth of the future of the Android phones. The Nexus phones were the first to tell us about great 720p large display that introduced to us the virtual keys instead of physical buttons and a new interface as well. The Nexus has gone through repeated developments in a faster way and although from outside, the phones look similar, the inside has always kept changing with new features.
The Gorilla Glass is really good looking
Let’s begin from the impressive glass of the phone. The one-piece gorilla glass on the front of this phone is a magnificent and a clean piece of glass that lends a grand look to all the Nexus phones. Undoubtedly the case of the phone comes with a great finish. Especially the series of dots underneath the glass that produces random light making the phone look great aesthetically.
New cute size with other features
The phone is 9.1 mm in size that fits greatly in the palm, being the slimmest phone in the world. The soft plastic running around the border of it is lovely. Watching complete HD 720P videos can give you unthinkable thrills. Although it is a bit disappointing that the Micro SD card holder is absent in this, the 8 GB and 16 GB memory can accommodate top-end games and HD movies with still a lot of space to make use of it.
Android 4.2-another feather in the cap of Nexus phones
There are amazing developments in the Android 4.2-the new phone by Nexus. Especially, the camera app is so wonderful that you can just tap with the new simpler interface that can permit you to change options by moving finger on the list of options. The new gesture keyword can act like Swype enabling you to make use of WI-FI, air-plane mode, GPS and lock screen, which is re-designated. The multitude of options takes a little more time to learn but really exciting.
Battery-Really amazing
Android 4.2 makes use of the kind of battery to suit the load for various complex operations in a day. It may be checking e-mail or browsing through Twitter and Facebook, the battery can last for the necessity of an entire day. Be it the needs of watching YouTube videos or frequent logging in and out of various websites, the battery can help the demands of the necessities of an average day.
8 Mega-pixel Camera-Wow!!!
Android 4.2 has the fantastic 8 mega-pixel camera to help with wonderful image capturing. The capacity is superb with1080P video that captures images with a LED flash. There is a vast improvement from the earlier Galaxy Nexus version. This is a great camera in its own right that can match with most of the top-end smart phones. Capable of capturing images in nice details, it can sweep your feet off the floor as you see them in print and warm up the cockles of your near and dear ones as you upload and send them to view. The quality of resolutions of the picture is really amazing.
Android 4.2- not the ultimate in Nexus gadgets
Surely, there will be newer phones in the future. But Android 4.2 is undoubtedly the master piece in the range of Nexus phones.

What are the Different Types of Mobile Phone Screens?

There are many things worth considering when purchasing a new smart phone, or mobile phone of any kind, but there is typically one aspect that people tend to not think about when purchasing one: the type of screen used in the mobile phone. With video watching on the rise with mobile phones, the quality of the screen has become much more important- as the user wants to have a high-quality screen that provides a sharp picture that can be nearly as good as the home computer or their television. It sounds like a lot to ask from a smart phone, but as technology gets bigger and better, so does the mobile phone manufacturer’s ability to live up to the task of providing the best screen available on the market, which will meet and exceed the demands of the consumer. There are various types of screens to choose from, and they all have their benefits and disadvantages. Here are some of the most common mobile phone screens currently on the market:

TFT LCD
This is one of the most common mobile phone displays. It is just like an LCD screen, but with a filter (TFT) that makes the picture even clearer than it would be otherwise. It offers much higher image resolution than previous LCD displays for mobile phones. The downsides are that it does not perform well under sunlight, or other types of direct light, and it has a narrow viewing angle. Larger TFT LCD screens also tend to suck battery power very quickly.

IPS LCD
This is similar to TFT, but a higher quality viewing experience, and it tends to be on more expensive phones. This is the display that is most commonly used in later versions of the iPhone.

Super LCD (SLCD)
This is the upgraded LCD type, with brighter colors that look more natural, as well as the ability to perform well in sunlight.

OLED
This is the next step up from LCD displays, and offers better picture quality in every category. It has wider viewing angles, better response time and high-definition colors in their natural tones. The display is also a lighter weight than LCD ones.

AMOLED
There is essentially no difference (in terms of display attributes) between AMOLED and OLED.

Super AMOLED
Super AMOLED was developed by Samsung, and has the same attributes as OLED and AMOLED, except it is the thinnest and most lightweight display on the market.

Gorilla Glass
Gorilla Glass is not a type of mobile display screen, but it is rather a new type of glass designed specifically for use in mobile phone screens. It is very strong.
